I have done genealogy research since the year 2000. Most of my private research is in Sweden but a lot of my ancestors emigrated to the USA and some to Canada. Through the years I have helped people from North America find their connection to Sweden, and in some cases they have visited the area their ancestors came from, and they have even been able to find the graves of their relatives.
Through the years I have taken various genealogy courses and I also have diplomas from the Mid Sweden University in genealogy and from the University of Gothenburg in paleography (the study of ancient and historical handwriting).

My ancestors
My ancestors came from the southern and western parts of Sweden. I have done extensive research, some of them I have traced as far back as the late seventeenth century. But there is still a lot left to do. There are some people who are hard to trace and there is so much to learn about every person. Some were convicted of crimes, others died tragically at a very young age. So genealogy never really stops – on the contrary – it grows.
My emigrants
The emigrants in my family went to different places like Chicago, Seattle, Minnesota and Michigan. For quite a few of them I have found living descendants. In some cases I have met with them and in other cases we have been writing letters or e-mails.
Other research
I also researched the history of my husband’s childhood home in Västerbotten in the northern part of Sweden. It showed that his great great grandfather got the land from the state back in 1819 and he settled down there. This research resulted in a great family gathering to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the village in 2019.
Sources
It is important for me to verify all details in the primary sources. Primary sources are for example church records, like the household exams, the birth, death, and marriage records. Sometimes these records are not available. They may have gotten lost in a fire a long time ago, or they are just ”lost”. Then I have to use other sources like censuses, judgement books, minutes from parish meetings, prison records and so on. It all depends on the situation.
Genealogy services
In recent years I have started doing genealogy as a paid service to customers. The customers can be people who do not want to or do not have the time or knowledge to do the research themselves. There can also be customers that do genealogy but have ”hit a brick wall”, and need an extra pair of eyes to be able to go on.
